“Seeing Through to the Ground” is a new series of paintings that infuses mystic beliefs in the distinction between three levels of ascension. Through the use of a symbol laden lexicon that stems from various influences ranging from medieval art to Persian manuscripts, from classical mythology to theosophy or occult symbology, parables are created that unravel the traditionally hermetic practice of self discovery.
Set in temple-like settings, regalia cladded figures and hybridized beings partake in esoteric rituals and individual narratives. A robed figure stands facing a black and white tiled wall, a serpent with a head at both ends and the cosmos running through its body summons and awaits its master, and a butterfly sprouts from the top of a tree; all alluding to the three levels of ascension–the ritual, the consummation and the transformation.
