Kelly O'Connor

In her second solo exhibition at the gallery, Blinded by the Light, Kelly O’Connor juxtaposes sickly sweet, candy-colored surfaces with paper sampled from vintage records covers and found images. The contrast of sparkling rays and bright neon against weathered, dull tones serves as a metaphor for dualities within our society. Appropriated images, primarily from the 1950’s and 1960’s, provide an access point through nostalgic and familiar American themes.

Kelly O’Connor has had recent solo and group exhibitions at Women & Their Work in Austin; the Galveston Art Center; Sala Diaz, Blue Star Contemporary and The McNay Art Musuem in San Antonio; and was included in the Texas Biennial in 2007 and 2013.
